The CME Coalition has issued a new compliance guide, Independent Medical Education (IME) Compliance Guide, for use by accredited CME providers and commercial supporters. The IME compliance guide additionally contains FAQS for non-accredited activities.
Representing many of the leading providers and supporters in the CE enterprise, the CME Coalition's member organizations manage and support the development of healthcare CE programs that impact more than 500,000 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care professionals (HCPs) annually. A significant part of the CME Coalition’s role in achieving its mission is the development and dissemination of important policy analysis to its member companies, as well as the community at large.
In furtherance of this objective, the Coalition has produced the following FAQs in response to numerous questions the CME Coalition has received regarding: (1) the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education (“SII”), which have been adopted by several accrediting bodies; and (2) best practices for education providers and the industry to consider for non-accredited educational activities.
We hope stakeholders find this to be a valuable resource. Importantly, although the CME Coalition developed these FAQs in cooperation with our legal counsel, this document should not be constituted as binding legal advice from the CME Coalition, as the individual facts of any situation are likely to be unique.
